Nutrition and Weight Loss

Nutrition

Understanding nutrition, what to eat and how to stay consistent tis one of the most important tools you can learn. As part of our nutritional and weight loss program each patient will meet with our providers and nutritional specialists. Nutrition and weight loss is not a "one size fits all" this is why programs are tailored to the individual needs of the patient. You will not buy any "prepackaged" foods and have to endure meal replacement shakes. Most of these plans are not sustainable and once you are done following the program most will gain their weight back as they never learned how to change their lifestyle.

Keys to Weight Loss

The most important key to weight loss is to get your body to burn fats instead of carbohydrates. Now this does not mean a "no carb" program as our body still needs carbohydrates. You will learn how to balance your fats, protein and carbohydrates to assure your weight loss is healthy and sustainable. When we eat too many carbohydrates our bodies will use this glucose as the primary energy source instead of stored fat. When our bodies start to burn stored fats instead of sugars then there is obvious weight loss. This will also lower blood sugars which has been more effective in managing diabetes. When you have a low carbohydrate eating plan you do not experience spikes in blood sugars. This will increase mental focus and clarity. There are many more benefits to this lifestyle that will be discussed in your one on one consult.

Physical Activity

We will review physical activity and what activities, time and frequency will work best for each patient. We all like different activities, have different schedules, routines, and goals. This is why your exercise routine needs to fit your lifestyle. With a high fat diet you will have more energy and motivation throughout your day. Having a high fat eating plan will also keep you satisfied "full" much longer.

How to Get Started and Follow Up

Every patient will meet one on one for a nutritional consult. During this consult we will discuss your lifestyle, diets you have tried, experiences with what you have tried on the past, your routine, and foods you do and do not enjoy. We will also obtain body measurements so we can monitor your success throughout the program. After this initial consult we will discuss foods good to consume and foods to stay away from. We will create a menu with a grocery shopping list. Each patient will follow up individually to evaluate progress. Your follow up timeline is based your needs. Typically patients like to follow up every 2-4 weeks at the beginning of their program. The follow up and entire program can always bee adjust to meet your needs. The follow up sessions are $60. We will evaluate progress and address any hurtles that you have come across. This plan is not a diet but a lifestyle. It is sustainable so you will not fall into "yo-yo" dieting.
